Renew Our Days As of Old

Renew Our Days As of Old

Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Job

We have now finished the harvest season, and Praise G-d we have made it this far! We have accomplished another year of life (Jewish Calendar), and have entered into a beautiful new Harvest season! Praise the L-rd, because His lovingkindness/mercy/faithfulness is forever!

Now time to get deep…

What are things that you have learned this year? Let’s call that todays proverbs

What things are you facing now and your thoughts on life… Some pretty rough stuff right? Let’s call that Ecclesiastes and Job part I. What may the future hold? Well we don’t know, but G-d only knows. Let’s call that the 2nd part of Job. If You have lived long enough, you may have seen how life is a whirlwind of an adventure. Even from those in our congregation, there were some crazy things that have been happening. Some things are awesome and some that when they see what’s going on they hope for G-d to answer. Many people in the end cry out to G-d! Because for some reason, G-d is their last resort! Today, He can be your first!

We just finished the holiday of Sukkot the first day a holy day and the eighth day a holy day. On the eighth day we had Simchat Torah, where I rolled up my study torah back to Genesis with friends and family. It was such an amazing time! We danced and sang, and lifted up the name of Yeshua (Jesus). We prayed over and blessed a friend heading on a journey in New York, and we prayed for a man that is going through hardships. Two different lives in different journeys, but both needing something more than what is in front of them.

They need and desire life, but how can one know and find life?

'Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. ' - Proverbs 9:9-10

Life on earth is about learning what life with the Father is like, and sure enough it brings…. Wisdom and Understanding. This whirlwind of life on earth is how we are able to distinguish life and death. So what do we do with it? Have You heard the saying Live, Learn, and Grow

Again, Proverbs is about living, Ecclesiastes is about learning, and Job is about growing.

Live by taking these Words, because as it is said, “It is a tree of life to those who take a hold of it, and those who support it are praiseworthy.Life starts with the very first breath, and that breath is from G-d. So keep those words close, because life will get hard as we have to learn.

It is then said, “It’s ways are ways of pleasantness and all its paths are peace.” Hmmm? Let’s take a look into this sentence. "It’s ways are ways of pleasantness…." Taking to account God’s word leads to paths where there are pleasant moments and peace. Outside of this sentence or outside His word there aren’t that many moments of pleasantness and peace, there is just a void. Yet His Word is instilled into you that you may have moments of pleasantness and peace, but also moments to learn what those two words are. You might ask… Whaaaat are you talking about? I will simply say, You were created in God’s image with the gift of life. You have a purpose to Live, Learn, and Grow! Work hard and enjoy yourself, but remember where life came from….

"It is a tree of life to those who take hold of it, and those who support it are praiseworthy. Its ways are ways of pleasantness and all its paths are peace. Bring us back L-rd to You, and we shall come, renew our days as of old." -Etz Chayim (Proverbs 3:17-18, Lamentations 5:21)

The fear of G-d is the beginning of wisdom… which leads to understanding. Life is meant to be lived! The High Holidays were made complete by ending with Sukkot and the 8th day (Simchat Torah) marking the day of new beginning as we read in the morning of October 22 this year, “In the beginning G-d created the heavens and the earth” Wow! Fresh, New, ready for the next journey in front of us. Just incredible! G-d is placing you today in a type of garden where He is allowing you to work/harvest the yield of fruit. However, the only way Adam was able to gather the harvest or enjoy the fruit in the garden was through G-d’s know how. It isn’t about instinct, because if it were we would be just like the animals eating from the yield and not collecting/saving/replanting… instead the fear of G-d was the enabling of such understanding to bring in the fruit of the harvest and get ready for the next season. That might explain Job's initial success, but what happens later is even more incredible!

Job (The Culmination of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes)

Job, he was a man of faith that had applied the principles we find in proverbs, and he was a successful man. However, that is not the only thing that happened in life. This, what some say Is a random book in the Bible, is the culmination of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes applied to life. Job knew what It mean to live, but he had questions and fears. When everything was going wrong because of the evil one, he didn’t doubt that G-d was/is the faithful One. His friends and wife had thought otherwise. One said to denounce the creator, while the others put the blame on Job’s sins or human nature. To them Job went crazy, and the result was all these diseases and hardships. Yet, Job didn’t go crazy, and kept His faith towards G-d. Finally G-d does answers Job by basically telling him not to question His Power. Who likes that answer? However, It was in all this struggle that Job instead of responding to G-d as harsh, he fears G-d more! You may ask, but how? Easy, G-d’s words to Job weren’t to deter, but to strengthen him, because “In the Beginning G-d created”, and who knows creation better than the One who made it! Job's response.... Blessed be He!

You see, Sukkot is about the moment we were in the wilderness, in trials, and in hardships, but we are told to look up instead. FEAR G-D! On the 8th day of refreshment with His Word, we are told BE STRONG, BE STRONG, and BE STRENGTHENED! Blessed be He!

Today, He wants to distinguish you, and give to you according to His love so you may know Him and His goodness. At the end of the book of Job we see that everything is returned to Job with a double portion. That’s where we read, “Bring us back L-rd to You, and we shall come, renew our days as of old.“

The eight and last day is a celebration! A day where we acknowledge G-d’s words that distinguish, rejuvenate, and strengthen us for the journey ahead. You may be in college, starting a new job, you may moving, or simply having a change in life. So many things can be happening, but there is not a doubt that G-d is doing something important in your life! So LIVE IT OUT!

Live life to the fullest enjoying everything you do giving thanks to G-d for He is good! So now you may dance your way to the next era/stage of life, but remember G-d is all around you. He will never leave you or forsake you. Mostly because He loves You! For G-d so loved the world that He gave His one and only son Yeshua, so that you may Live! Live life to the fullest by taking Him with you where you are going today! And as we said and continue to say, Be Strong! BE STRONG! and Be Strengthened!

Many Blessings in Yeshua,

Your Senior Leader,

Jacob Rodriguez
